Advent: Web Site Reviews
Below is a small selection of links to web sites containing useful resources on Advent for Catholic religion teachers and catechists.
- EWTN - The Holy Season of Advent - Much of the material on these beautifully crafted pages can be useful. There is a reflection, a prayer and a suggested action for each day of Advent. Also of interest is the Blessing Rituals For Advent page. It contains the Order for the Blessing of an Advent Wreath, a Manger Scene, and a Christmas Tree taken from the Catholic Book of Blessings. The shorter versions of these blessings is also included.
- Family Advent Customs - by Helen McLoughlin - The complete online text of a book published in 1954 and made available by the EWTN web site.
- The History of the Advent Wreath - FR. William Saunders - In spite of the tile, there is little on the "historical" background of the Advent Wreath in this article, but it does contain a useful explanation of the symbolism of the wreath and prayer suggestions.
- Mary Page Advent Calendar - Daily reflections from December 1 to December 25 focussing on Mary in relationship to women in the Old Testament. Click on the numbers on the nativity scene at the bottom of the page.
- The 2002 Advent Calendar - From Saint Margaret Mary Parish in the Diocese of Joliet. For children? Each door can only be opened on or after the date. The suspense is killing me!
- Catholic Information Network (CIN) - Advent and Christmas Reflections Contains six articles to stimulate reflection on the meaning of Advent
